Fiber gaskets are among the most widely used sealing solutions in industrial plants for flanged connections. Their function is to ensure fluid tightness between two mating surfaces, maintaining mechanical stability and long-term reliability even in the presence of temperature and pressure variations.

This type of gasket represents a balanced choice when it is necessary to combine good sealing performance, chemical compatibility, and cost efficiency. It is used across numerous industrial sectors, particularly for handling:

  • industrial water and medium-temperature steam
  • oils, lubricants, and hydrocarbons
  • technical gases and refrigerants
  • acids and bases in moderate concentrations

Within the General Packing range, the reference solution is EUROSEAL® GP 300, an aramid fiber gasket designed to ensure operational stability and reduced leakage over time.

EUROSEAL® GP 300: High-Performance Aramid Fiber Gasket

EUROSEAL® GP 300 is an asbestos-free flat gasket made of aramid fibers and inorganic fibers bonded with NBR elastomer and selected mineral fillers. The material is manufactured through a hot calendering process, which results in a compact, homogeneous, and dimensionally stable structure.

The high percentage of structural fibers improves mechanical strength compared to conventional fiber gaskets and helps limit degradation under load. The result is a reliable material, suitable for standard industrial applications where consistent performance is required without resorting to more complex solutions such as pure graphite or semi-metallic gaskets.

Technical Characteristics and Operating Limits

EUROSEAL® GP 300 operates within a temperature range from -60°C to 280°C in continuous service, with pressures up to 100 bar. The main technical parameters are:

  • Operating temperature: -60°C to 280°C (continuous)
  • Maximum pressure: 100 bar
  • Compressibility: 7–17%
  • Recovery: 50%
  • Density: 2 g/cm³

Residual stress values confirm the material’s good long-term stability. As with all fiber gaskets, performance depends on correct installation, controlled tightening, and the surface condition of the flanges.

Long-Term Sealing Reliability

In flanged connections, a significant portion of leakage can occur through the body of the gasket itself. For this reason, material quality and stability under load are critical factors.

EUROSEAL® GP 300 is designed to reduce permeability and limit relaxation over time. The 50% recovery value allows the gasket to maintain constant stress against sealing surfaces, compensating for micro-irregularities and variations caused by moderate thermal cycles.

Certifications and Safety

The gasket is completely asbestos-free and certified according to API 607 – ISO 10497 for fire testing, as well as compliant with ASTM D635 for horizontal burning rate. These certifications confirm its suitability for applications where specific safety requirements are necessary.

Technical FAQ

When should fiber gaskets be chosen over graphite?

They are suitable for medium-high temperatures and non-extreme operating conditions, offering a good balance between performance and cost.

Are fiber gaskets reusable?

No, like all compressible flat gaskets, they are not designed for reuse. After tightening and service, the material undergoes deformation that compromises performance if reinstalled.

Are they suitable for steam?

Yes, up to 280°C in continuous service and 100 bar, provided correct installation conditions are met.

Are fiber gaskets suitable for high pressures?

They can be used up to 100 bar in the case of EUROSEAL® GP 300, provided that tightening conditions and flange class are appropriate. For higher pressures, semi-metallic solutions may be preferable.

Are they asbestos-free?

Yes, EUROSEAL® GP 300 is completely asbestos-free.
