What is Garlock GYLON® 3501-E?
Garlock GYLON® 3501-E is a silica-filled modified PTFE material engineered to provide highly reliable sealing performance in the presence of chemically aggressive media. This material is ideal for critical industrial applications thanks to its superior chemical resistance and its ability to maintain performance even under high pressures and temperatures.
General Packing, an authorized Garlock distributor in Italy, supplies this product with full technical support and stock availability.
Main technical features
GYLON® 3501-E is brick-red in color and made of silica-filled modified PTFE. It operates within a temperature range from -268°C to +260°C, with an ideal maximum continuous temperature of +204°C. It withstands pressures up to 83 bar (1200 psi), with an ideal operating limit of 52 bar (750 psi).
From a chemical standpoint, it is compatible with strong acids (except hydrofluoric acid), steam, solvents, hydrocarbons, chlorine, and cryogenic environments. It is non-flammable.
Its mechanical properties include compressibility of 7–12%, recovery of 40%, tensile strength of 2000 psi (13.8 N/mm²), and a modulus at 100% elongation of 1600 psi (11.0 N/mm²).
Application advantages in industrial sectors
GYLON® 3501-E is widely used in refineries, chemical plants, power generation facilities, and water treatment systems. It ensures high sealing performance even with low bolt loads, excellent resistance to creep and stress relaxation, and outstanding adaptability to flange surface irregularities.
Comparison with other Garlock GYLON® grades
Compared to other materials in the same range, GYLON® 3500 is more suitable for strong oxidizing acids, while GYLON® 3510 is the preferred choice for alkaline environments and solvents. GYLON® 3501-E represents a versatile solution, offering an excellent balance between chemical resistance and mechanical stability.
